Australian #97 Brown Mallee root burl raw - PEN blanks SHORTS

Sold in 1kg lots (approx. 15 pieces)

Blanks sizes vary in length from 2" up to 4" its diameter in above the average 21mm square of my blanks due to the fact that these shorts are rough cut (bandsaw)

These shorts will be sold bulk (1 kg lots) and in pairs, one slightly longer than the other for those that will use 2 shorts to put a 2 barrel pen/kit together.  Due to the fact that all these Mallee blanks are processed from Mallee root pieces that have been broken apart in chunks by the big machine that removed them from the ground so, there are far too many shorter pieces that don't make full-size pen blanks so a large percentage of this root is processed in shorts and casting pieces/blanks of various sizes.

Australian Mallee burl is well know all around the world, there are basically 2 main types, the brown and red Mallee Gum burl species.

Mallee burls can grow on the tree trunk/limbs and on the roots, these are what I have on sale.  Mallee root burls are extremely difficult to rip from the ground and process afterwards due to rocks, sand/soil and all sorts of stuff that get jammed within the roots as they grow so, a nightmare for all the equipment that has to cut/slice this roots into suitable sizes.

The roots were purchased originally by the Mc Laren Vale firewood processing plant owner as one of the most expensive firewoods one can buy however, it's density and characteristics are well know when used to cook food, and as firewood, it burns slow but hot, lasts a long time and leaves little rubbish behind.

The burl was some variations in the burl composition, some harder, some softer and some spalted.

Very easy to work with and finish.
