These blanks were made with small branches from a Cork tree that has grown and lived not far from me, the tree still stand up and in good health.
Cork being a "buoyant" material, is not the easiest of material to cast as then tend to float so, each piece has to be secured in some way, until the resin sets hard.
All the wood/cork pieces cast, have been stabilised prior to casting however, stabilisation does not penetrate and harden the cork part as it does with normal wood so, is a good idea to use some thin CA (super glue) on the cork after turned and sanded to create a hard film over it, very much so as one would use wood sealer to soak softwoods prior to finishing.
These blanks produce some of the most attractive pens I've seen, treat them as fragile blanks, take you time. If you are aware of the "Flap disc system" it is strongly advised to you use it, unless you have very sharp tools and you have full control of the cutting tool.
These blanks were cast with the new Epoxy resin 2/1 ratio.
Note: Blanks #56 to #63 are marked as "seconds" due to a crack at about 1/4 of the blank towards the bottom. Some may be difficult to see in the pics.
