These are selected log blanks that have produced small birdseye markings that are in a way similar to the Huon Pine Birdseye, these blanks are dry they can be turned as is or stabilised in colour to enhance the eyes within as I have shown on other listings on this store.

This wood was sourced from a large Macrocarpa tree, and known as Golden Cypress, only a couple of kilometres out of town.

These large tree species were introduced to Australia by our Settlers from the 1800's, as some of the best "windbreakers" and also a symbol of "wealth", according to the European traditions where, rich people would have these trees planted alongside the access road to their property, and close to the house.

This tree and about a dozen of them planted in this particular area near some old buildings, were estimated at 80 odd years old at the time I and my wife cut it (2006) due to root structure failure (rot) with half of it, been root out by a windy storm, some years prior.

A very stable wood, lightweight and light colours, however, the root is more colourful and grainy and the wood above ground can display some small areas with lots of small birdseye (tiny knots) resembling the birdseye Huon Pine.

The wood has a characteristic pleasant smell that becomes more active when the wood is worked on.
