What we have here is a combination of 3 different packs of diagonally cut pen blanks.

One is the older wood, sold to me by the local timber mill, old fellow and founder, as recently he passed on the running of the mill to his oldest son, this story has been mentioned on other Old Silky-Oak blanks listings...! The wood is old and very dry, the colours and grains are just crazy, particularly around any knots, the wood works and finishes very easily...! From it, I have processed 2 of the "types" listed here, the Old & Super, which are the same blank but some (super) with a heavier colouration than the rest.

The third "type" and in this listing, the one that appears first, are blanks also cut diagonally, cut/processed from a fairly large Silky-Oak tree that we cut late 2013.  Part of this tree was slabbed and some were cut into manageable size logs, taken to our wood storage paddock.

These blanks are some of the first processed from what was them green wood, they were cut oversized and put to dry in my typical drying towers.  This medium density wood dries quite fast and I was able to actually have some done and sold within 6 months from when the tree was cut but, the lots listed, are the ones that were left to dry a lot longer and since cut.

Even exposed to the natural light, these new wood blanks have a much lighter colouration than the old wood ones, it will take a good 20 + years for the new wood to darken naturally, such as the one found in the old wood, the grain patterns are the same but not as pronounced, as expected.  Both blanks types have equal merits and capabilities to produce stunning pens and other items, is up to you, to decide which ones you like the most and use on your pens...!

Fairly easy wood to work with and finish, all blanks were waxed at on face for colour enhancement for the pics, only...!
