These blanks were processed from a tree species that took me some time to identify.  I see lots of them around but no much in the wild bush, they seem to be widely planted by local Councils, in many locations, particularly as shade trees.  Not excessive large in size, they produce a thick canopy, pretty flowers and some interesting foliage. According to some of my research, its name is the result of the wood suitability to make wooden mallet heads, these need to the tough and heavy...!

The trunk/bark colour is also very interesting, shedding its outer skin layer all the time, the new bark surface is quite shiny and smooth, of a dark greenish/brown type colour.  The most amazing part is its general weight, the wood is extremely heavy and dense when green, as it dries, its weight reduces considerably but still, on the heavy side...!

The wood colourations vary also significantly, depending upon, if the wood, is from the heartwood, sapwood and if is dry or wet.  As most wood species, colours will darken as it dries and in areas where was some dead wood, the spalting does appear with its magnificent colours, some of those blanks may need stabilisation, but a very minor percentage...!

These blanks were cut from the green logs and stored to dry, for a couple of years, I have finish some of them lately as they are more than ready to list...!

The wood works quite well, and due to its density, finishes easy.  Blanks were also waxed on the surface to enhance its colours for the pics, only...!

Thank you for visiting...!
